Welcome and introductory messages

Karen Westergaard, Chief of Party of the USAID Cooperation for Growth Project, addressed all of the attendees and wished them a warm welcome. She pointed out that Serbia recognizes the need for new sources of financing for small businesses and that the Fintech industry, the present companies and cooperation are precisely the ones that can improve the business environment in Serbia.

His Excellency Kyle Scott, the United States Ambassador, expressed his hope that the Serbian IT sector will continue to record growth in the future. He stressed that one of the goals of the USA is promoting Fintech solutions around the world but also In Serbia.
The Vice Governor of the National Bank of Serbia, Ana Ivković, stated that the NBS is adopting legislations which support further digitalization and innovation, and that it is also creating the infrastructure which will stand at the disposal of the financial institutions wanting to create new services catered to the clients’ needs.

The Prime Minister of the Serbian Government, Ana Brnabić, highlighted that new sources of financing will be crucial for the growth of small and medium enterprises, which make up 99% of the Serbian economy, and that digitalization of all segments within the economy and the society represent the best tool for economic growth.
