How Malta has led the creation of an enabling environment for the proliferation of blockchain enabled finance.
Jonathan Galea is a Maltese lawyer, specializing in the field of distributed ledger technology (DLT), or blockchain. Since 2013, he has complemented his legal knowledge with technical certification as an application software developer. He completed his doctorate thesis in 2015, focusing on the legal impact of Bitcoin on money laundering, which was among the first legal theses on the subject. His expertise was instrumental in solidifying Malta as a leader in implementing a regulatory framework for blockchain-enabled finance, and over the past few years has organized many conferences and meetings on DLT regulation. He has also participated as a keynote speaker in several conferences, both in Malta and abroad, covering the legal, technical and economic aspects of this novel technology.
